Blogging - A Past Time or Additiction

You know I now have been bloggin for a few months and I am starting to tell others that it can be quite addicting. I have encouraged others to try it out and see what it does for you in regards to opening your mind to others as well as the community that it provides...but there are definitely times when I find it hard to identify the time to writ the thought provoking posts that I hope to provide to my readers (Let alone finding time to read other blogs, comment, etc to build my own readership).

So question 1 today:

What do you do to carve out time in your day to post/blog?

I worry that when I do type my posts I am taking time away from the kids so I tend to write them at night or in the early morning hours (such as this one).

I also try hard to find interesting things to blog about but sometimes struggle with the witty and thought provoking posts that I read on other blogs... I try though to be honest and true in my posts and see some results in what I am hearing from those of you that do keep up with my ramblings.

So I do look forward to this new pasttime...but will continue to look for new and creative ways to make sure that I am not sucked too far into the chasm/void which is blogging addiction (to the detriment of my family)!

I usually jot down notes or send myself emails at home during the evening and weekends, when some particularly amusing or thought-provoking event occurs, then I take break times at work to write them out and post them.

Very rarely do I ever actually write and post from home because my kids consume most of my time.

It's far too easy to allow blogging to turn into an addiction, so it becomes an act of self-will to keep from obsessing over it.

I do much of my blog reading & writing very early in the morning.

I have kinduva piecemeal blog post writing process. I jot the basic idea or some starter notes in Google Docs. Then as I have a chance during the day (or days) after that, I revisit, add, refine, etc. Keeping my post drafts in Google Docs means I can work on them from work, home, or just about anywhere and pick right up where I left off.

And I go through spurts where I have loads of stuff I want to sya and can easily make time here & there to whip up the posts. But then there are other times when I just can't come up with article topics (or can't narrow broad ideas down enough to make 'em coherent) and/or struggle to make time to compose my thoughts. This past 5-6 days has been one of those "dry gulch" periods, but I've got a coupla posts brewing...

I have actually cloned myself into 5 people.

#1 Sleeps all day
#2 Makes love with my wife all day
#3 Plays with the kids all day
#4 Works all day
#5 Blogs about the other four

It's been working out pretty well...

Peace,

Joey

I blog at the same times as you do. But I've learned to jot down ideas when I get them. Not later when my memory is spotty at best.
Keep writing though.

I usually blog in the mornings or late nights too. Sometimes I'll also start a post and not get back to it for a few hours or even a day.

It's the blog reading that I get real addicted to and takes up more time for me. I find more great dad or mom blogs all the time, but can't get to reading or commenting as much as I'd like.

Since your readers are mainly men--- or so it seems---
I'll add my 2 cents for the mom's who blog!
I blog when the dishwasher and the washing machine are going-
- I think of posts by just listening to the kids, of course my house isn't the cleanest, but the kids, my husband and I are happy.-- Blogging for me is a free hobby I can do WITH the kids!
(my house was messy before blogging...)

Thanks for all of the thoughts on this...I appreciate them... for me I guess it is simply trying to carve out some time. I have been trying more to use scheduled posts, so that when I do have time I can work on things...so maybe that will help a bit! Thanks again and thanks for commenting!
