I can honestly say that I have never had this type of shave. I actually do not get to an actual barbershop much as J-Mom will cut my hair and it saves our house some money overall. In reading what Brett has to say though about this, it sounds intriguing, and something that I would like to experience at least once in my life.
My only question about this is whether it makes a difference if you are usually clean shaven or not as for me, I shave with both an electronic and manual razor daily which leaves little behind. Maybe this does not make much of a difference. For those of you who have had this done to you, what are your thoughts on this question?
My thanks to Brett for taking me and others on this 30 day journey. Some of the things were quite easy, while others took some thought and work, like all good programs should. If you haven't started on this 30 day journey, I highly recommend it, check it out today!

There's some mysterious allure to a straight razor shave and I've always wanted to do this!
The day before my wedding, my brother (whom I hadn't seen for several prior due to him being stationed at a USAF base overseas) & I went to get haircuts together. We scoured the town trying to find a barbershop that offered straight razor shaves. But we were advised that (at that time) nobody was doing them out of fear of AIDS. So I just kinda dismissed the notion and never really looked back.
But now you've inspired me to scout around again for that elusive straight razor shave.
Well, I did it! Took me far too many years than I'd care to admit, but I finally did get a straight razor shave.
Was it everything I'd thought it might be? Well, my face felt as smooth as a baby's bottom and my goatee has never looked more precisely trimmed, but I'm not sure I chose the right barber to do the task. There were no warm towels or fancy prepwork. No ceremonial stropping of the razor before beginning. No badger brush clinking in the little cup of soap to whisk up a lather. Really, none of the rituals I had expected to make the shave more of a big to-do were there.
What there was were LOTS of little nicks that stung like rattlesnake bites when she hit me (without warning) with the post-shave astringent.
Will I do it again? Yes. I'm over the initial apprehension of having someone come at me with a big, gleaming piece of razor-sharp steel (actually, her razor looked rather small and not even all that gleaming) so I do think I'll do it again - but with a different barber next time.
