We ended up having a wonderful weekend and decided to set up the Christmas stuff seeing that we were busy the next few weeks... we typically do not set up anything like this until after Thanksgiving, so this is a new one for us.

Wow. That is early. I gave my Canadian friend a free pass on early Christmas decorations because they already had Thanksgiving up there, but I suppose your logic is sound, too. But, still, I cringe when I see stores already selling Christmas items.
We were going to put our tree up early. The only reason we haven't is because we are planning to get a real tree for the first time since we had kids and we have to wait so it actually lasts until Christmas. I did get all of the lights outside hing though.
Mark, I know what you mean, I cringed at first as well...but now I have to say that I am happy that they are up and out of the way. I now can enjoy them longer as well!
Kristi, we have never gotten into the whole real tree, though my parents have. I remember one year in visiting my Aunt, that the tree she had had some kind of weird allergy effect on me and I couldn't stop sneezing and blowing my nose - talk about weird!
